13 Sep Surrender and Let go!
Surrender, have faith, trust in the timing, have patience… and the best one yet like in the well-known Disney movie, Let it go…Let it goooo.
Ok its not quite time for karaoke.
It is time though to have a little chat about surrendering and letting go. If you are like me, you seriously just cringed reading those words! Because its so much better and calming for the nervous system when we can control things and when we know exactly what is going to happen and when! Right?! lol
BUT let’s be real for a second. Nothing good comes from trying to control a situation, nothing good comes from holding onto something oh so tight that you squeeze the life out of it just because you are in fear of losing it.
It might sound cliché, but there truly is so much freedom on the other side of things when we do surrender and when we can let go and better yet when we can trust in the universe that we will be delivered what is meant for us, and it will ALWAYS on time! Because that is one thing I know for sure, the timing of the universe is never off! Things, people, resources, opportunities all come into our lives at the exact time they are supposed to, not one minute sooner and not one minute later.
What is meant for us will never pass us by!
Now you might be thinking, yea yea Kenia oh enlightened one its easy for you to say! Truth is, I still struggle with this! I am human after all. Despite the amount of work that I have done on myself and therapy I have had, it doesn’t guarantee life is peachy every day, overall, yes, it is, but it is normal for old habits and patterns to creep in every now and then. I have the self-awareness now to acknowledge it a lot faster and work through it versus allowing it to consume me completely and take over.
When I am able to have faith and surrender, something amazing happens, I am taken over by immense freedom and peace. I return to my natural state of love and happiness, and I reminded in that moment that I will be ok and things will happen just as they are meant to.
Here are a few things that I do to help me surrender.
#1 is Prayer.
Intentional prayer to god and the universe on what it is that I need guidance on or a situation I am struggling with and letting it be known that I am surrendering it and asking for guidance or reassurance if I am supposed to continue or go in a different direction. One key thing though is having faith when you are surrendering it up in prayer. Truly believe in your heart and soul that it is being delivered and handled once you surrender in prayer. LET. IT GO.!
#2 is Journaling.
I like to journal things out. Putting thoughts out on paper releases its power over you. A journaling practice has been very healing and therapeutic in many ways for me, because not all of the time do I want to talk it out with my best friends or therapist. Sometimes I feel more comfortable just writing it out and getting it out of my mind and surrendering it up on paper.
#3 is Meditation.
Meditation allows me to get out of my own head. Sitting in stillness with my sage burning in the background or sometimes following guided meditations instead. Just giving myself a few minutes of quiet time and allowing the thoughts to just pass by. Now don’t let meditation intimidate you or think you have to be some sort of yogi or monk to do this or that there is a “perfect” way to do it because there isn’t! It can be as simple as closing your eyes for a few minutes and shutting off all electronics and just breathe. Nothing fancy! Just a few minutes of quiet time a day can make a huge impact.
Lastly, but most importantly once it is all done, I turn up the music and dance around, move my body, move the energy through me or go outside and get some sunshine and go for a walk.
Don’t get overwhelmed thinking you need to do all of these things to surrender and feel better. If one of them resonates with you, then start there and stick with that. Don’t forget to have fun along the way. The faster you can get yourself back into a state of happiness and love, the faster you are able to experience peace and be brought back to the present moment.
By being present, you are allowing the universe to do it’s thing, you are demonstrating your faith and your patience and trust.
I know I have said it before, but we are just human beings doing our best at this thing called life. So don’t be too hard on yourself. Show yourself some compassion and grace as you go through things.
You are not alone. You are never alone.
Surrender. Let go. Patience. Love. Trust and Faith
xoxo
